A Gift from Someone: Tyler Knies

There is not a day that goes by that I don't stop and think about where I would be if it were not for my biological mother giving me up for adoption. I tend to find a sense of healing inside of me, just lying down with my favorite tunes on, turning my thoughts to my music, and trying to clean the slate for the next day. Now, in no way did I have a horrible childhood, but the exact opposite became my destiny. Ralph and Brenda Knies, who will always be my real parents, decided to fly down to Recife, Brazil 26 years ago. They arrived two days before I was born. As soon as they landed in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, they decided to check into their hotel, and meet up with the adoption agency the next day. The following day they met up with a man from the adoption agency. They drove two hours to the city of Recife, Brazil and arrived at a small building, no bigger then a cottage. The man had already had a child, perfect for them. You guessed it, me. An anonymous woman, who was given a baby, with a note inside, saying the time, and date the baby was born and nothing else dropped me off that morning in a tiny little basket. Once my parents were introduced to me, they were happiest couple ever. After six weeks of paperwork, they were finally headed home where I would grow up in a beautiful brick home with a lake in the back and another farmhouse and livestock. Cows, pigs, chickens, a pony, and two horses. Failing to mention the raccoons, skunks, and chipmunks that we also nursed to health. Well, as time moved on, and I grew older, I knew that it was time to give back to the country that took me in with open arms. I decided to join the United States Navy. I served five years honorably on the USS Harry S. Truman, as an Aircraft Director/Handler. I have deployed all over the world and have seen things that people only learn about in history books. This life that I am talking about is all possible, because of one woman. A part of me would like to find her or at least siblings that I might have, but I am thankful my biological mother decided to give me a better home. I not only have the most loving family in the world, but I have gotten the opportunity to travel all over the earth and have been exposed to a lot of different cultures.  All of this could not be possible if it weren't for my biological mother. If I could see her today I would give her a hug and thank her for letting me have a wonderful life. Maybe now that people know about my adopted life, they could spread the news about doing away with abortions all together. Every life is worth saving.
